IFPTE Meets with DOE’s Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations on SMR Grants
Last week, Engineering Association (EA/IFPTE Local 1937) President Mike Cavote joined IFPTE Secretary-Treasurer Gay Henson and IFPTE President Matt Biggs for a virtual meeting with representatives from the newly established Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
This meeting came on the heels of another meeting with DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy and is a part of IFPTE’s ongoing efforts to make Small Modular Reactor (SMR) grants available to federal utilities such as the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
EA President Mike Cavote commented,
“We at the EA continue to be pleased with the direction of the Department of Energy toward investing in SMR technologies which will provide carbon free, safe and affordable energy.”
Secretary-Treasurer Henson also weighed-in, saying,
“It is clear to IFPTE that the Biden Administration not only shares our support for robust investment in SMRs, but also in making those investments available to federal utilities like TVA. Our efforts to secure these grants for TVA are part of a near 90-year tradition of TVA and its 17 unions working together to provide good-paying jobs, reliable energy and a boost to local economies throughout the service area.”
