SPEEA Attends Bob Ferguson's Kick-Off Luncheon
Members of the Executive Board and Northwest Legislative & Political Affairs Committee from the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA/IFPTE Local 2001), attended the kick-off luncheon for Washington state gubernatorial candidate Bob Ferguson on Dec. 5 in Seattle.
The SPEEA officers heard SEIU 775 member Melissah Watts – a personal home-care giver -- praise Ferguson as “a kind man” who made her feel seen and heard when he visited her home while seeking the endorsement of her union local, which represents home-care workers in Washington.
Ferguson, who is Washington’s current attorney general, said the right to seek union representation would be one of the foundations of his governorship. He touted his office’s record of support for farmworkers, plus his efforts to eliminate non-compete agreements for franchise workers and improve worker protections at the Hanford nuclear clean-up site, as proof of his support for working people.
SPEEA currently does not endorse specific candidates. However, Ferguson has been endorsed by the IFPTE.
Along with SPEEA members working at Boeing in Western Washington, IFPTE’s membership in Washington state includes engineers and scientists working at Naval Base Kitsap, the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Puget Sound, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District.
