Biggs, LaFemina, and Kildee Pound the Pavement in Philadelphia and Rural Pennsylvania in Support of Labor 2024 Candidates

IFPTE President Biggs (c) and International Representative LaFemina (r) pause between meeting about STEM workforce development with Philadelphia CLC President Bauder (2nd from right) and AFT representatives before they get ready to talk to union members about Election 2024.

IFPTE president, Matt Biggs, international rep, David LaFemina, and assistant to the executive officers, Brian Kildee worked alongside Union Sisters, Brothers, and Siblings in Pennsylvania this week as a part of the Labor 2024 program to elect pro-worker candidates.  As a part of the door-to-door effort to inform Union members about the various positions of the candidates on issues of importance to working families, all three also met with Philadelphia AFL-CIO president, Danny Bauder, and American Federation of Teachers (AFT) key staff, regarding coordinating efforts on workforce development in existing STEM occupations, particularly those impacting current and future IFPTE represented employers.

“It is critically important that IFPTE do its part working the AFL-CIO’s Labor 2024 program to help elect pro-worker, pro-Union candidates to office at all levels.  Our jobs, our compensation, and our working conditions depend on it,"  Biggs said.  "President Bauder and every one of his affiliates work hard every day to make sure that union members and their families know the value of labor representation, so when we knock on the doors of union households to talk about the election, voters are ready to talk to us and hear what we have to say."

LaFemina also commented saying, “Matt and I have been working with the Philadelphia AFL-CIO for many election cycles, and we are honored to be able to do so given that Pennsylvania is such a critical state to determining who wins the White House.  Rest assured, we will continue to do our part here in Philadelphia for the remaining 30-plus days before the election.”  Kildee, who is working the Labor campaign outside of the Philadelphia suburbs noted, “It was also a great opportunity to connect with President Bauder in Philadelphia and share ideas about and strategy concerning our efforts to procure government grants at all levels to help train STEM workers who will also be future Union members.” Among the candidates that the AFL-CIO and IFPTE have endorsed are Kamala Harris for President, Tim Walz for Vice President, and Bob Casey for United States Senate.
