IFPTE Letter to House and Senate to Include Language in NDAA to Protect Merit Principles in Civil Service and Block Executive Branch from Creating a Patronage System

IFPTE continued to push Congress to pass legislation that protects "the federal civil service so that it cannot be undermined by a presidential administration that seeks to replace nonpartisan career federal employees... with political operatives who are hired and fired at the whim of the administration." PSLF Waiver Ends Oct. 31, Check StudentAid.gov — IFPTE Joins Union Letter Requesting Waiver Period Extension

With the deadline for the Department of Education's waiver on the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) just days away, IFPTE and NPEU/IFPTE Local 70 signed onto a union letter to Education Secretary Cardona requesting the deadline for the waiver be extended through July 1, 2023. The waiver allows PSLF to forgive student loan debt in instances where borrowers were not previously on an eligible repayment plan, did not pay the full amount due, or did not pay on time.

As Congress continues to work on the National Defense Authorization Act, IFPTE reached out to House and Senate leadership and the Armed Services Committees to urge them to include the Preventing a Patronage System Act (H.R. 302/S. 4702) in the legislation. IFPTE also joined a coalition letter led by NARFE to House and Senate leadership advocating passage of the Preventing a Patronage System Act.
